I recently began a new art series of paintings where I started painting the frame to be a part of the artwork. I was amazed at the response that I got from this new series. Everyone seemed to love the pieces. I had a few requests from students to make a course to show the step by step process of how I go about creating these paintings. Here are a few of the things I will cover in this mini course:

  • step by step process of how to assemble your frame to your canvas
  • list of resources of where I purchase the frames and hardware to create the framed piece
  • process videos for two framed paintings
  • still life painting tips and techniques

Over 3+ hours of content is included in this course!

List of supplies and materials needed:

  • frame (standard frame size needed)
  • canvas or art board that fits your frame
  • hand drill with drill bits
  • d-ring picture hangers
  • frame offset clips in a variety of sizes with screws
  • picture wire
  • acrylic paint
  • pencils
  • Inktense pencils
  • oil pastels
  • R & F oil sticks *optional
  • white gel pen
  • paintbrushes
  • gouache paint *optional
  • sand paper for distressing *optional
  • oil paint *optional

Don't be too intimidated by the supply list! I will provide links to purchase all of the hardware for attaching the frames to the canvases. As always, oil paint is optional. I do use it at the very end of one of the pieces that I create for the course. But it is not needed to participate!!!

Wendy Brightbill

My name is Wendy Brightbill and I am somewhat of a creative wanderer, an artist who enjoys exploring a multitude of mediums and styles. I love messy child-like play especially when it involves paint. I picked up a paintbrush after a car accident rearranged my brain from a closed head injury. I believe that there is healing to be found in art making and getting lost in the process. I try not to treat my art as being too precious, and yet, I am deeply committed to my daily creative practice. Art making is a little like breathing air for me. I can’t live without it. I am also a mother to three beautiful girls and a wife of 17 years to my biggest cheerleader. I have lived in Colorado for all of my life. All I ever needed to know, I learned from being a kindergarten teacher for four years. I just turned forty and I am finding this new found super power of saying no to the things that don’t bring me joy or peace.
