21 Day Color Project

An Intuitive Approach to Color

Color drives creation for me. I obsess over color. Every time I sit down to paint, it’s almost as if I am seeing a color for the very first time, even if I have painted that same color many times before. There is a sense of wonder that unfolds. It’s what keeps me returning to my creative practice.

Color is such an intuitive part of my personal process as an artist. This intuitive approach to color wasn’t always there, it’s something that has developed over time with a lot of practice. I will be sharing with all of you how I approach color. I want to help you think about color in new and different ways. I want to give you the tools to make you more confident in your color choices.

Here are some of the highlights of this course:

  • Tips on how to use color and how to build color palettes
  • Color mixing advice
  • How to use color trends in a way that makes sense for you
  • Daily color prompts
  • Daily color inspiration

We will be doing lots of smaller color studies in this class. These are meant to be a jumping off point for your artwork. It’s a great way to dip your toe in the water and find color palettes that you truly love.

I want to challenge the way you look at color and open new possibilities to you! This is going to be so much fun!!! The possibilities are endless for what you can do with this course.

Note: so much of this course is open to interpretation. Please bring your favorite art supplies, whatever that may be. Watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, gouache... you choose. You will want to have a range of colors beyond the primary colors, with black and white.

Wendy Brightbill
Wendy Brightbill

My name is Wendy Brightbill and I am somewhat of a creative wanderer, an artist who enjoys exploring a multitude of mediums and styles. I love messy child-like play especially when it involves paint. I picked up a paintbrush after a car accident rearranged my brain from a closed head injury. I believe that there is healing to be found in art making and getting lost in the process. I try not to treat my art as being too precious, and yet, I am deeply committed to my daily creative practice. Art making is a little like breathing air for me. I can’t live without it. I am also a mother to three beautiful girls and a wife of 17 years to my biggest cheerleader. I have lived in Colorado for all of my life. All I ever needed to know, I learned from being a kindergarten teacher for four years. I just turned forty and I am finding this new found super power of saying no to the things that don’t bring me joy or peace.
